Summary
Our platform is a B2B sales incentive tool. A client was migrating from their legacy system to ours and wanted to recreate their daily trivia feature. While the original trivia had good user engagement, it felt outdated and lacked visual feedback and polish.
The goal was to redesign this feature with a fresh, engaging interface that would increase the solid engagement they already had while improving the overall experience. We also needed to create intuitive admin tools for content management, scheduling and reporting.
User testing showed people loved the idea and said it would definitely get them coming back daily. Even though it never launched because the client left, other teams at our company were excited to use it for their clients too.
The Process
Discovery & Strategy
- Stakeholder interviews to understand the legacy solution, client goals and engagement challenges
- Studied historical usage metrics to shape strategy
- MVP scoping due to tight 3-month timeline
Design & Iteration
- User-facing trivia experience design
- Extensive admin interface for setup, question management and scheduling
- Visual design exploration to balance fun with professional brand
Validation
- Accessibility testing and compliance
- Internal user testing with both end users and administrators
- Feedback collection, iteration and prototype refinement
The Challenge
While the original trivia feature had good engagement, migrating it to our platform meant it needed some real work:
Legacy System Limitations
- Outdated visual design that felt stale
- Basic admin tools that were clunky to manage
- Limited content organization and scheduling options
Platform Behavior Insights
- The platform had potential but people weren't exploring beyond their immediate tasks
- Zero daily engagement habits with other platform features
- Missed opportunities to build deeper platform loyalty
The Solution
For Our End Users: Daily Trivia
- One question each day to build a daily habit
- Instant feedback so people knew if they got it right
- Reward points for correct answers to keep it motivating
- Questions focused on products and sales tips to improve sales performance
The daily flow: pick an answer, get instant feedback, and a simple close-out message once you've played for the day.
What we saved for later
- Streaks and leaderboards (would've been fun but not essential)
- Advanced analytics and reporting
- Automated question scheduling based on campaigns
For Our Admins: Intuitive Management Screens
- Content managers needed to easily upload questions, organize them by topic, and schedule them
- The new screens allow admins to see what's scheduled, what's live, and historical questions
Admin tools for building and managing trivia: a management queue by status, and a form for writing questions, answers, and feedback text.
The Results
We conducted usability tests with end users and admins and received positive feedback overall.
- People genuinely liked it and said it would make them want to log in daily to play
- Other teams in our company saw it and wanted to use it for their clients
Ultimately... the feature never actually launched because the client ended their contract with us. But we proved the concept worked and built something other people wanted to use. Engaging with other teams helped open up collaboration across the company.
